About

About

Westervelt Owhaoko, a joint venture between U.S.-based Westervelt and local Iwi, produces exceptionally pure Mānuka honey guided by the principles of Manaakitanga caring for people and land. Tasked with rebranding Tāku Honey, the goal was to communicate artisanal craft, contemporary Māori culture, and rare provenance to global markets, particularly China and the U.S. Tāku means my honey, so the brand mark needed to feel personal, strong, and distinct. A custom wordmark incorporates a contemporary Māori koru, echoed across typography and a bespoke UMF mark. Packaging emphasises authenticity through regional storytelling, QR codes, batch stamps, and premium finishes like embossing and gold foil. Hand-drawn botanical illustrations and scalloped edges evoke natural, earthy qualities, appealing to both luxury wellness and eco-conscious consumers.
