The McCashin family commissioned a revival of Rochdale Cider, one of their original 1940s brands produced by a local Nelson orchard and brewery. The aim was to honour the brand’s history and tradition while making it feel contemporary within the growing cider market. The new identity was designed to convey a playful “retro cheek,” balancing nostalgia with modern appeal. The refreshed brand features an iconic apple mark with stencilled lettering, referencing naive fruit stamps. Typography and copy were carefully crafted to give Rochdale a distinct aesthetic voice, while layouts and hierarchy draw inspiration from vintage newspaper ads. Authentic textures, including antiqued paper effects and screen printing, add tactile charm and credibility. The revitalised brand has strong shelf appeal, connecting with consumers through its fun, nostalgic character. Rochdale Cider received widespread recognition, appearing in numerous design annuals and winning multiple design awards, marking a successful return to the market.
